Man rescued from Snake River near Wolf Flats
Boise, ID (CBS2) — The Bonneville County Sheriff's received multiple calls at 7:30 am on Saturday of a man trapped in the water near Wolf Flats.
Sheriff's Deputies arrived and found that a man had lost control of the pickup he was driving causing the pickup, camper, and small ATV trailer he was towing to go into the water.
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Bonneville County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue, Idaho Falls Ambulance, Jefferson Central Fire, and Air Idaho Rescue all responded. Multiple witnesses were able to help guided first responders to the area the man was last seen.
Deputies were able to locate the man who was semi-conscious on the bank of the river upstream from the Byington Boat Ramp just after 8 am. The man was taken by air to the hospital to get treatment for hypothermia and other minor injuries.
The man and his dog were the only occupants in the vehicle and the dog was found on top of the camper and was rescued by deputies.
Bonneville County Sheriff's Office would like to remind people that the conditions on the Snake River remain dangerous with cold temperatures, a high flow rate from mountain runoff, and floating debris. They would like to remind those planning to go camping near water to always make a safety plan for the area you are in.
