Nampa hit and run leaves woman with devastating injuries
NAMPA, Idaho (CBS2) — On June 30, Nampa Police responded to a call of a woman injured in a hit-and-run crash near the roller drome. That woman is 25-year-old Talia Elerick.
The vehicle-pedestrian crash left Elerick with life-threatening injuries. Elerick's arm was broken in ten places, one of her legs was amputated and the other is currently being treated.
"Because of all the dead tissue right now and stuff like that, they have to wait for the swelling to go down. When I talked to doctors, they said structurally they should be able to keep her other foot," said Talia's friend MacKenna Ireland.
32-year-old Trevor Stebbins fled the scene and was eventually arrested by Nampa police. He is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and fleeing a police scene.
Talia is currently at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. She had surgery earlier Tuesday morning to repair her leg. Her leg and arm are both still at risk of amputation.
"It's going to be a long process before we get the definitive yes or no on [her leg]. But as of right now they are saying it's still looking good, so we're just trying to stay positive," said Ireland.
Talia's biggest worry is her four kids. Her children are safe staying with her foster mom, however, Talia still struggles with the fact she isn't there with them.
"It's hard seeing another mom go through this. Because I know it's already hard being a mom," said Katie Sue Bayliss, Talia's friend.
And the kids are still trying to come to grips with this terrible reality.
"They're still trying to cope with their mom not being there in their everyday lives like she was before," said Ireland.
The family is currently accepting clothing donations for her younger children. The address for the drop-off is 411 first avenue north apartment 101 in Nampa. The kids, ages four, five, and six wear size 6t pullups. The girls wear clothes size 4t and her boy wears size 6t.
Along with the clothing donations, the family is also accepting funds. The Venmo to support Talia is @taliaandfam and there is a GoFundMe as well.
