Schools in Marsing School District evacuated due to bomb threat
MARSING, Idaho (KBOI) — Schools in the Marsing School District were evacuated Thursday afternoon due to a bomb threat.
The Owyhee County Sheriff's Office told KBOI 2News that officials evacuated the district, high school, middle school and its elementary around 11:45 a.m. after a note with a location of a bomb. The note was found in a bathroom inside the high school saying there was a bomb inside a locker in the middle school.
Bomb dogs were brought in by the Owyhee sheriff's department, and bomb squads from other agencies also responded.
The kids were relocated to a field near the schools, which parents were initially concerned about, but bomb experts told school officials they weren't close enough to be affected by the bomb, so it was a safe location for the time-being.
A chunk of students were in the middle of ISAT testing, according to the superintendent, and will be able to resume testing next week.
Nampa Police, Boise Police, Marsing Fire and more agencies were on the scene. Ultimately, police and bomb personnel haven't found any traces of a bomb.
The incident has been deemed a federal offense and is still being investigated. As Owyhee officers are reviewing security footage, school officials believe the note may have come from a student but do not want to speculate just yet.
Parents were first notified by a voice-messaging system and have told a KBOI 2News reporter that they're upset officials aren't allowing students to go home with them. However, buses have started to arrive at the school grounds to begin transporting the students.
All students are safe and accounted for, a district official told KBOI 2News.
