Seeing numbers on Wikipedia is one thing, but seeing all the trophies is amazing, Iga Swiatek

World No.1 Iga Swiatek decided to take a little break from tennis in order to recover from a minor niggle after her Stuttgart Open triumph. She pulled out of the Madrid Open but didn’t keep herself away from the court. She was seen practicing and even paid a visit to the Rafa Nadal Academy.

Swiatek is a huge Nadal fan and has time and again cited the importance of the Spaniard in her career. Even at the Italian Open, Swiatek was seen having a long chat with Nadal on the practice courts.

Iga Swiatek amazed by the museum in the Rafa Nadal Academy

In the pre-tournament press conference, Swiatek shared her experience of visiting the Rafa Nadal academy. The Pole also visited the Rafa Nadal museum- the place where all of Nadal’s trophies are displayed. She said that the experience was inspiring for her. She added that seeing the number of trophies Rafa has won in his career on Wikipedia is a different thing but seeing so many trophies in person is whole together a different experience.

She also mentioned that the museum was not only about Rafa or tennis, but also about other sports including the spoils of 2-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso.

“For sure it was inspiring. You could see all the trophies, which is amazing. Seeing numbers on Wikipedia is one thing, but seeing all the trophies, how consistent he was sometimes in some tournaments, it’s amazing,” Swiatek said. ”Actually I really like this museum. It was not only about Rafa and about tennis, but also about other sports. You could see there was Fernando Alonso Formula 1 where he won world championships. It was just interesting because you could see the sports, not only tennis, not only what Rafa did, so that’s nice.”
