In 1990, Sofia married her high school sweetheart, Joe Gonzalez, in Columbia. She was 18 at the time.

“There’s things in life that might sound like good ideas, but they’re not,” Vergara said in another interview. She added: “I was a mother already.”

Their divorce was finalized in April 2024. The pair had a prenuptial agreement.

In July 2014, Manganiello told Men’s Journal that Vergara’s take about their reasons for divorce isn’t true. He said:
