Donald Trump is expected to deliver his town hall remarks at 4 p.m. at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

The former president is expected to speak about what his campaign is calling economic hardships created by the Biden-Harris administration.

“When I’m out and about in this district, that’s all I hear about,” said Rep. Chuck Edwards.

Congressman Chuck Edwards, a Republican who represents North Carolina's 11th Congressional District, will also speak at the event.

I think we’re going to expect to hear him talk about the policies that he had in place when he was our president before and remind us of how well we had it compared to how well Americans families are living today,” Edwards said.

Catawba College Political Scientist Michael Bitzer thinks the concern Americans have about prices could be something Republicans use to their advantage.

POLL: HOW MUCH OF AN IMPACT IS INFLATION HAVING ON YOUR BUDGET?

"I think this election is about the economy and the American family that’s struggling so much under Vice President Harris’ adopted policies,” Edwards said.

According to Redfin, the median sale price of a home in Asheville jumped from $310,000 to $515,000 from June 2019 to June 2024.

Gas prices between August 2019 and August 2024 have gone up more than two quarters, according to GasBuddy.

The average price of basic goods like eggs, milk, chicken, bread and beef have increased since Trump became president to now.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a Republican, a Democrat, unaffiliated; inflation is affecting every American household, every American kitchen table and I’m proud that President Trump is coming here to talk about this because Vice President Harris is clearly avoiding that issue all together," Edwards said.

According to a recent Gallup poll, 33% of Americans said the economy is the most important issue facing the country today.

“If Donald Trump can stay on message this could potentially be a very effective framing of the economy,” Bitzer said.
