The F1 circus is known for its fair share of controversies and following this trend, the weekend in Miami has been filled with quite a few off-track happenings. Subsequently, one of the controversies was related to the Republican’s presumptive nominee, Donald Trump, who was alleged to have planned to hold a fundraising event at the race.
Weeks before the event in Miami, long-time Donald Trump friend, Steven Witkoff was speculated to have planned to hold a fundraising event for his Republican friend. However, the Grand Prix organizers were not happy with this idea and declared Witkoff’s paddock pass null and void. Subsequently, leading people to believe that Trump would not be making an appearance at the race amid such allegations.
But to everyone’s surprise, the former President was spotted in the paddock catching a lot of eyes.
The 77-year-old was welcomed with immense support from the fans. Moreover, Trump was seen waving to the fans and expressing his gratitude for the welcome he received. Moreover, he was ecstatic about the racing spectacle and even had a chat with McLaren boss, Zak Brown.
Miami circuit CEO revealed details regarding cancellation of Donald Trump’s friend’s ticket
There were various speculations regarding why Trump’s friend’s ticket was canceled. Experts and investigators understood that it was due to the pass being used for a political campaign, which was against the terms and conditions of Witkoff’s purchase.
Prior to the race, Tom Garfinkel gave an insight into his strong stance against such political activities.
There will not be any fundraising at the event from anybody. The event is about bringing people together and we welcome everybody. We don’t control people’s guest lists when they buy a suite. We want everyone to enjoy the race, and we want this to be a great environment and not something that becomes political or is used for commercial or political purposes.Tom Garfinkel said in a press release
The track CEO explained that the event cannot be used for any form of fundraising. Furthermore, he elaborated on his stance and stated that it is a social event, and they want everyone to enjoy the race instead of making it a political event. The race is still going on and Lando Norris is leading the race with around 10 laps remaining.
